We met with friends on Friday. They were one of the first families that i met when we first stepped into the HE community and although we have seen each other frequently at HE events it is not until now that our children have connected. Bean, 10, and Pumpkin, 8, spent more than an hour at their house whilst i took plum, 5, and pippin, 2, to the nearby play park with K, 12. We had a great time at the park and played on the zipline, roundabout, swings, slide, pirate boat and the adult gym equipment before we got a call to return to the boys. We then stayed a little longer watching a film before we left. The plan eas for pippin to sleep, which she did on the return journey but promptly woke when we got home.
Saturday we went to Pilgrim Hall for our church away day. The children played all day with SGG and SGS who did clay models and kite flying and pictures and junk modelling with them. Daddy and i sat next to each other all day and we took the children swimming in the outdoor pool. Pumpkin didn't want to swim so swang on the tree swing a while and then went and played table tennis and table football with a friend.
Sunday we went to church and then collapsed in the afternoon. All the children took themselves to their own corner and lay and played on their tablets. We did the same Monday too. Both saturday and sunday we had had to wake the big three to get them up and out for the day, monday was blessed relief.
Monday their was some Magic: the gathering, playing in the paddling pool, painting, playing mummies and daddies, minecraft, and a lego zip wire. I also took plum and pippin to the park for an hour.
Tuesday we took Archie dog out for a walk in the woods. We had to go and buy him some tennis balls as he didn't have any. It started to rain just as we were leaving. The remainder of the day was spent with water beads and den making, minecraft, youtube, gaming, and film watching.

That's no moon
Friday became our second enforced day at home with mummy's bad back.
Bean, 9, and Pumpkin, 8, and i watched Satr Wars 4, Plum, 5, watched Youtube and played in the garden and with the kitchen set.
Bean has taken over the morning feed of the animals this week and fed and watered them every day, often without reminder too.
Plum and Pippin and mummy painted their nails together and braided two plaits in Plum's hair.
Saturday we took a familt trip to plant flowers on nana and grandad's grave. Bean and Plum made a wreath together from willow and plants and flowers from the hedgrow and field.
We spent the day at FA#3 and mostly played in the garden with cousin C and H.
Sunday was church day, our friends renewed their marriage vows and mutual friends came to celebrate too. Plum and daddy took archie for a walk in the afternoon. Pumpkin played the head/ body/leg/feet drawing game with me and bean and pumpkin and i played mastermind together for a while. We watched the original Charlie and the chocolate factory together in the evening.

Joy in our heart
Things that make my heart happy:
Bean, 9, asking how to spell things and reading every sign and advert and leaflet we pass. And getting excited about things we have planned or are planning, setting up a game with his siblings and playing together for hours, wanting to tell me about the things he is watching and sharing things that he finds funny and making us laugh, plans to make a bigger origami display for the next showcase event.
Pumpkin, 8, swinging his arm as he runs, finding giant sticks that he has ideas to whittle so it looks like Gandalf's staff, helping his brother up out of the stream, being excited at the Butcher's and choosing something to eat, riding the roundabout with his siblings and letting Pippin push him on the swing.
Plum, 5, making friends with a dog and being so pleased with herself, playing IT with Bean and Pippin, forward rolls at hyperspeed across our bed, playing hide and seek toys with Pippin, waiting up for me before she goes to bed, holding hands as she falls asleep.
Pippin, 2, singing twinkle twinkle as we drive in the car, swinging and swinging and swinging at the park trying to make it go by herself, throwing a ball to the dog and eventually getting out of the buggy and loving the dog, reciting We're going on a Besr Hunt, running to the window to wave at our neighbour in the morning.
Our day was a mixture of Cartoon Network, minecraft, Terreria, a trip to the Butcher's, over an hour at the play park, walking Archie for two hours in the woods, playing The Battle of the Pirates role playing game, hide and seek toys, watching The Pink Panther cartoon, Gobblet, buying Harry Potter collectors stickers and chocolate ice cream.

Pets
Friday.
We went to see a friend today, T, 8. He has a new puppy who is energetic and friendly and loves children. Bean, 9, and Pumpkin, 8, immediately went and played upstairs with T where the dog couldn't get to. Plum, 5, and Pippin, 2, sat glued to my lap. Eventually Plum made it clear that she wanted to be outside/anywhere except with the dog. So we went to play in the garden however Pippin didn't like the horses at the end of the garden either. We went back indoors, the dog was now on a lead and the girls became a bit more confident to go and play. Initially Plum went to play upstairs too but returned to play on the keyboard and guitar. The boys finished the playdate with a play outdoors. Plum became inconcolable as we left as she wnted an apple and we didn't have one. I put the timer on my phone and said we would be home in 10 minutes and this occupied her enough to calm her whilst we drove home.
The evening was spent with Plum on my lap as she was feeling anxious about me going out for the day on Saturday. She joined me in bed in the middle of the night too.

Doggy days
Part of Bean's, 9, unschooling journey has involved us recently connecting with dog owning families via borrowmydoggy. Today we met Archie for the second time and went for a walk with his owner Kat and her children. It was the first time that Pumpkin, 8, Plum, 5, and Pippin, 2, met Archie. He is a young cockapoo with soft blond curls who has lots of energy but is really friendly and well behaved, he's a perfect match for our family. The excitment of meeting him also ment that we all managed to get dressed and out with everyone on side. Next time we will have Archie all to ourselves for a play.
Bean fell in a pile of freshly sprouting stinging nettles and stung his whole hand back and front which continued to bother him for the remainder of the day. We also read an9ther chapter of Harry Potter together.
Pumpkin played on the Pokemon minecraft mod for the first time and loved it. He played Terreria with Bean and they watched cartoon network together.
Plum and Pippin played together all morning. They made dens from umbrellas and blankets and put their teddy bears in with them.

How much is that Doggy?
Alex the guinea pig died on Friday night. Daddy put him in a box and buried him in the garden with Bean, 9, and Plum, 5. They found a prayer about pets in Bean's prayer book and said that together.
This news began our day of unexpected events. We had planned to collect pallettes for Bean's tree house project and meet our first dog from BorrowMyDoggy. We rang to check that the pallette place had pallettes o ly to discover they are shuton a weekend and the dog lady postponed our meeting until tomorrow.
The morning was spent mostly cooking mushrooms for Pippin, 2. Mummy had made mushrooms on toast for her breakfast and shared them with Pippin. She then asked for more and cut up her own mushroom, i cooked it and then she ate it, and then she cut another one, i cooked it and she ate it, we did this one more time before i gave her the remainder of the mushrooms and we did the last four at one go.
Daddy took Bean and Plum into town in the afternoon. We were on the search for welly boots for Bean and Pumpkin, 8, as we plan on dog walking in the woods tomorrow. It was an unsuccessful welly trip but they did get to meet Star Wars characters in the shopping centre and Bean took selfies of him with Chewie and some Storm Troopers whilst daddy held an apprehensive Plum. Plum returned her bird toy to the ToyShop and exchanged it for a Misfits card game. The game was opened as soon as she got home and played with Bean and then daddy.
Sunday:
Today we met the dog lady and Archie the Cockapoo. We found each other on BorrowMyDoggy. Bean has been keen to have a dog for several months, maybe a year but we are/I am not in a position to own a dog right now. This scheme means that we will be able to spend regular time with a dog, walking and playing and cuddling, without the full time responsibility. We walked around Leechpool Woods, me, Bean, Archie and his owner and Bean loved it. We have arranged a second meet so Archie and the other three can be introduced to each other and assuming that is successful then we will take Archie on our own.
Big event today, moving the bunk bed from mummy and daddy's room (I can call it that now) into Plum and Pippin's room. Pippin slept in the bottom bunk (as is normal) until about 1.30am. She was very wet so daddy got her changed and then she slept with mummy. Plum woke about 4am and i held her hand for a while, as is normal, she was still awake/woke again about 4.30am and came and lay on the toddler mattress next to mummy's bed.

Jolly Snow
Monday 6th August
I can't believe I only have one photo from today!
We had an early start this morning, both boys up and Plum before 6.30 (Plum woke at 6.00 but fed in bed before we got up.) Bean asked for a show box to make a puppet theatre with and some sticks to put puppets on. Before 8.30am we had two reasonable theatres and a selection of puppets. Both boys want to decorate them some more but have enjoyed using them already.
We met friends at a play park this morning and Bean was struggling to hold it together. So much so that he said he didn't want to go to gymnastics because he was too tired (said whilst displaying being too tired!) I couldn't quite believe it as he loves gymnastics so much but even after I explained that it was at a certain time and if we didn't go now then there would be no gymnastics he choose not to go. I was expecting some fall out later when he realised he had missed it but it didn't happen.
Instead we returned home after eating our lunch at the park and had some more food. Later we took the dog out for a walk.
Pumpkin has taken to doing bubble experiments in the bathroom (not convenient!) It involves a lot of toiletries being poured into the sink and the overflow being in use. It has taken me the whole weekend to realise that I need to provide a place and supplies for him to do this some where more acceptable. He got the inspiration from a story book we read on Friday - Jolly Snow

Tuesday 7th August
Out walking the newest member of our household (only for a few days) The boys are really enjoying walking her and feeding her, they are a bit nervous of walking past her in the house especially when she is in doorways. But mostly she spends her time sleeping/ resting so it's hard to notice she's even with us most of the time.
The hour long dog walk was followed by a bike ride into town, a visit to the bank, camping shop (spontaneous sale buy of sleeping bag and roll mat for Pumpkin,) and buying wooden spoons to make puppets with (Bean's idea.) The boys have both used the spoons to make their own puppets this afternoon and I am enjoying watching them use the craft space we have made in the house.
Our road is closed for two days so that it can be resurfaced and a zebra crossing put in between the opposing schools. It is a small boys heaven. The number of different machines travelling up and down our road, all shapes and sizes, it really is quite fascinating. We got caught in a rain shower on the way home but this didn't stop the boys from wanting to stop and watch the work going on.
There was a lot of watching iplayer this afternoon and Bean was looking particularly gaunt, our mornings run around had certainly worn them out.
Spaghetti and meatballs for dinner was enjoyed by all, one of the most fun aspects of baby led weaning has to spaghetti!

Roll over, Roll over
Saturday 4th August
We have nothing planned this weekend except the arrival of Bronwyn, an elderly Golden Retriever who is coming to stay for 10 days.
After yesterday's trip to Battle we found the story online and pictures of the tapestry. We also found an animated version so the boys have been repeatedly watching head chopping, eye poking, limb amputation, in moving tapestry!
We had very few toys out today and mostly there was colouring and sticking and making occurring. Except for Plum who played with this large wooden hammer for ages. She definitely hit herself at least once but was most distraught if you took it away from her. Today is also the day she mastered rolling from her back to her front, although I haven't seen it yet. She whizzed around the living room floor mostly turning and shuffling rather than rolling but it wont be long.
When daddy suggested taking the boys out (with a bike ride in mind) they both jumped up and went to play happily in the garden!
Plum has been enjoying celery during her food trials and this week we remembered to keep the bulb and have placed it in water to watch it grow. I have included the first photo, shot after two days.

Plum has been enjoying celery during her food trials and this week we remembered to keep the bulb and have placed it in water to watch it grow. I have included the first photo, shot after two days.
Daddy measures the boys monthly on our wall. The markings in the photo are two months of growth from Pumpkin, it measures one inch in two months. At least this gives reason to his large appetite and unusual sleeping patterns in the past days.

Sunday 5th August
A great morning at church where we read the first verses of Luke 7 and I was particularly taken by v.13 -When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
I'm also getting very excited about camp this year, spurred on by chatting to best buddy J last night. Lots of exciting things planned and it's only two weeks away Whoop Whoop! Going to do a piece on it in church next Sunday.
Another day of nothing planned...I almost feel like I'm on holiday. We ate lunch and Plum slept longer than usual so whilst we waited for her to wake (a luxury for her) Bean and Pumpkin watched and I finished knitting all the parts of the snake (hence, above photo)
We took Bronwyn for a short walk. She really is a poor old girl. went off at a speedy walking pace on the way out, had a five minute run in a field and slowly plodded home. Both the boys had a go at taking the lead and giving instructions. Bean repeatedly stated that, 'this is fun.'
Lots of fun in the garden when we got home. Many a make believe game, swapping from one to another. I couldn't really keep up but I'm sure it wont be long until the dog is incorporated!
